"Give up on yourself. Begin taking action now, while being neurotic or imperfect, or a procrastinator or unhealthy or lazy or any other label by which you inaccurately describe yourself. Go ahead and be the best imperfect person you can be and get started on those things you want to accomplish before you die." -- Shoma Morita, MD

One of life’s great challenges is narrowing the gap between words and action.  For those in the helping professions, it is common to encounter clients who have difficulty changing habits and taking essential steps towards the accomplishment of meaningful goals.

Morita Therapy is a method of Japanese counseling that Japanese artwork to compliment Japananese psychology trainingemphasizes purposeful action and self-discipline.  Rooted in the psychological principles of Zen, it emphasizes self-development rather than symptom reduction.  It offers a framework for a natural approach to mental wellness.

This innovative approach to mental health is educational in nature, providing clients with principles and practices that will help them to accept and cope with unpleasant feeling states, while moving forward with purpose and attention.  Self-focused attention is often associated with psychological suffering.  With the support of these unique strategies, clients learn to shift attention to constructive and controllable action rather than rumination, blame and self-preoccupation.

This course will focus on the following themes:
